Welcome to Belle’s Place

at the heart of the Ilfracombe Community

The power of community to create health is far greater than any doctor, clinic or hospital”

Who, What, Where

Belle’s Place is run entirely by volunteers based in the heart of Ilfracombe. We work with around 250-300 people at any one time, referred from agencies, social services, and schools as well as self-referral.

We help those in need to access further support.

We help to support the most vulnerable individuals and families in our community.

A Story & Thank You

Meet “Big Mike” – Mike has come through an amphetamine addiction and a recent stroke. He now volunteers at Belle’s Place helping Carol in the kitchen to serve up food. If you would like to “Be Like Mike” and volunteer we always have opportunities available and would love to hear from you.

Improving access to routine healthcare among vulnerable communities in rural North Devon

In Ilfracombe in North Devon, a new primary care outreach service in a community centre is improving access to routine healthcare assessments, including colorectal cancer testing, for residents at high risk of ill health and premature death.

In this blog, Dr Marie-Joelle West, Programme Manager at Health Innovation South West, and Andrea Beacham, Senior Programme Manager for Health Inequalities, Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, share their work in partnership to improve access to care and better equity of health in Ilfracombe as part of NHS England’s national Innovation for Healthcare Inequalities Programme.
